Hospital PPE, Romania

In May 2020, a freight forwarder asked Air Charter Service to transport PPE from China to Romania, where it was urgently needed to protect hospital staff during the Covid-19 pandemic. With limited aircraft availability and not all Chinese airports allowing airlines to operate chartered flights, we sprung into action to find a solution and secure the necessary permits for the flight to go ahead.

OUR SOLUTION

Route: Hangzhou > Bucharest

Aircraft: Boeing B777-300

The client initially wanted to fly the cargo from Shanghai; however we advised them to reconsider and depart from Hangzhou, as we knew it was a quieter airport so the handling process would be quicker and smoother. We sourced a Boeing B777-300 passenger aircraft, as it had a large capacity and we could stack cargo on seats and in overhead lockers. Once the route and aircraft were finalised, we immediately drafted and sent letters of urgency to support our permit applications in order to avoid delays clearing Chinese customs.

THE FINER DETAILS

27/4 Service: The client was keen to be regularly updated on the cargo’s progress, so we monitored the charter around the clock and remained in close contact with them throughout.

Going the Extra Mile: To further reassure the client, we sent them photos of the loading process before the cargo left China.
